Joye Law Firm Scholarship Winner at Clemson
(A letter from 2007 Joye Law Firm Scholarship winner Joseph P. Current)
Mr. Ken W. Harrell and Mr. Reese Joye:
I wanted to take the time to thank you again for the scholarship you awarded me for this school year at Clemson University. I have just finished my first semester and as I start my second semester I am reminded how much your scholarship has helped me pay for tuition. This semester has been challenging and exciting for me. I finished this semester with a 3.5 GPA, which qualifies me for the Dean’s List. This was a real achievement for me and I am sure that you are glad to know your money is not being wasted.
Your scholarship has allowed me to focus on my grades and take advantage of the many opportunities available to me at Clemson. I enjoy my pre-vet classes the most. In them I learn about animal husbandry and how to handle large animals. I have classes on several of the farms around Clemson where I work with swine, dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep, and horses. The dairy cows are my favorite. I have been learning so much in my classes as well as meeting many new people.
In addition to keeping up with my school work I have gotten involved with several extracurricular activities. I am in the Clemson Marching Band and have enjoyed playing at all of the football games. I am especially excited about supporting Clemson at the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia! I am an Animal and Veterinary Science Major and am studying to become a Veterinarian, so I have joined the Pre Vet Club. This club is for people with similar career goals to mine and they have arranged trips to the various veterinary medicine schools as well as some zoos and aquariums.
Your scholarship has meant so much to me, and again I thank you for your kindness and generosity. It is organizations like yours that has made college become a reality for me. Thank you.
